If you gaze into the future, you’ll see Anneliese van der Pol life as a mom. The That’s So Raven alum announced that she’s pregnant with her and husband, John O. Wilson’s, first baby together and is due in October.
It’s a Girl!
Anneliese van der Pol told People in an interview published June 27th, “We’re having a girl. I have two sisters, and I could not be happier to bring another girl into the sisterhood.”
The duo, who tied the knot in December, found out the sex of their baby in a sweet reveal that saw John O. hit a golf ball that exploded into a cloud of pink powder. As Anneliese van der Pol put it, “I didn’t realize how much I wanted a girl until he swung and it went pink.”

The 40-year-old continued, “Of course, you just want a healthy child, and a boy would have been exciting too, but there’s something about a girl in this time that I’m just so proud of. I don’t want her to be a performer or care if she’s a doctor, but she will be a feminist.”
From On-Screen Exes to Real-Life Partners
Anneliese, who met John O. when they played exes on That’s So Raven spinoff, Raven’s Home, six years ago, went on to share insight into their journey to expanding their family.
She explained, “First of all, we were the couple that said we would never have kids.”
Changing Minds About Parenthood
John O. also added that their reticence to start a family stemmed from wanting to focus on other things. He shared, “We knew early on in our relationship that we had something amazing between us, so we had the kids convo early on and agreed, let’s just focus on career and travel. I highly recommend checking in with each other every few years.”
After readdressing the topic of having kids last summer and realizing they both changed their minds, they were planning on going to a fertility doctor until Anneliese van der Pol had another realization.
A Surprise Discovery
“Literally the day before we were meant to meet our IVF doctor, I realized I was late, so I took a test, saw two lines, and canceled our appointment. I put the pregnancy stick on John O.’s pillow and watched him figure it out when he came in to bring me my morning coffee.”
The Broadway actress added that John O. started crying when he saw her positive pregnancy test.

Preparing for Parenthood
As for their expectations around parenthood, they’ve been set by all their loved ones who have already welcomed children into their lives.
John O. explained, “Since a lot of our friends, cousins, my brother, Pete, and Anneliese van der Pol’s sister, Sarah, have already had children, we were definitely prepared for anything.”
And Anneliese agreed, noting that she knows that the early stages of motherhood will be really hard.
“We were not going to be disillusioned about the pregnancy or the first year in the slightest, and thankfully, I’ve had a really wonderful pregnancy.”
